Placement of trainees

At the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill University, many programs have integrated rural core rotation in their curriculum.

For the other programs, it is the trainees who decide to do their electives in rural settings.

Clerks Rural Rotation Length
Family Medicine 4 weeks (1 month) core rotation
Pediatrics Option to do a rural rotation in Val-d'Or
Residents Rural Rotation Length
Family Medicine 2 consecutive months during the 2nd year of residency. Option to do 3-6 months rural stream in Shawville or Val-d'Or
Anesthesia 3 periods during the 5-year residency program
General Surgery 3 months during the last 3 years of the residency program
Internal Medicine 2 months during the 2nd and 3rd years of the core 3-year program
General Internal Medicine 2 months during the 4th and 5th year of the residency program
Obstetrics-Gynecology Selective rotations available on an optional basis
Pediatrics 3 months during the first 3 years of the residency program
Psychiatry 3-month rotation. Option to do up to 12 months at the Pierre-Janet Hospital (Hull). Option to do 1 month for the core Family Medicine rotation during 1st year of the residency program
