Schedule

The preparation of the schedule requires excellent planning and constant coordination with the various departments and establishments where the trainee will be completing the rotation. Here are some schedule examples.

We invite you to schedule time for the evaluation periods at the half-way point and at the end of the rotation.

The monthly schedule must be sent to the trainee at least one 1 week prior to the rotation. For clerks doing their Family Medicine rotation, schedule must also be sent to the undergrad.fammed [at] mcgill.ca ( Department of Family Medicine.)

Clerks (students)

Here are some activities suggested for students which they can carry out during their rotation at your site. The undergraduate division of the Department of Family Medicine supports teaching of undergraduate medical students by other professionals. Students are covered by McGill insurance while taught by other professionals.

In preparation of the monthly schedule, please consult the Work Load Policy .

Residents

In the case of residents, it is important to consider the various components of their collective agreement when making their schedules. The complete collective agreement is posted on the FMRQ1 site.

Absences and holidays

Should a trainee have authorization to be absent, take a conference leave, take vacation time, etc. the Distributed Medical Education office and/or the Program coordinator will inform the site prior to the rotation. Should the site receive requests for vacation, sick leave, study leave, please direct the trainees to their Program Director.

During their rural rotation, residents are allowed 1 week leave per rotation month as per their collective agreement. However, the leave must be approved by the Program Director in advance. The site coordinator and/or supervisor cannot authorize such requests. Residents need to complete at least three quarters or 75% (¾) of the rotation to be valid.

Holiday season: Five consecutive days are allotted for either Christmas or New Year’s for residents and seven consecutive days for students. The weekend closer to the holiday is included in those consecutive days. Trainees must submit a request of their preferred dates 8 weeks prior (either the Christmas or the New Year’s period) to the site where they will be undertaking their rotation. Nevertheless, it will be the rotation supervisor who will decide on the allocation of the days off.
