McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management is launching an online version of its top-ranked Master of Management in Analytics (MMA) program. The 18-month online offering will feature the same high-quality curriculum and content as the in-person, full-time program, providing a balance of advanced statistics, technology and business strategy, and giving students a broad range of practical skills to turn data-driven insights into actionable solutions.
One of the largest contributors to climate change worldwide, the agricultural food supply chain crosses international borders and reaches across industries and sectors. Reducing its environmental impact requires complex, high-tech solutions like artificial intelligence—and the people to implement them at the right time, in the right places.
Thousands of restaurants and retailers across Canada sell food and beverages, and the logistics of getting these products where they need to be are complex. A new platform is using data to make it all more efficient. Led by Professor Laurette Dubé, Scientific Director of the McGill Centre for the Convergence of Health and Economics (MCCHE), MiXR will optimize resources throughout the food and beverage sector.
Canada’s trucking industry has a worker shortage, and competition for qualified drivers is high. The last-mile delivery company Sysco is offering truck drivers up to $30 an hour – with a $10,000 bonus once they meet all of the company’s service standards. This type of incentive can help address a company’s need for employees in the short-term, but it doesn’t address the larger problem, said Prof. Mehmet Gumus in an interview with CTV News.

Professor Mehmet Gumus, Academic Director of the Master of Management in Analytics (MMA) program, joins SAP’s On-Demand Webcast to highlight how data interpretation impacts business decisions at every level of an organization. According to Gumus, the primary goal in teaching data analysis to MMA students at Desautels is to help them understand “what just happened, what will happen, and what should happen” in a business setting.
Only two years since the program launched in 2018, the Master of Management (MMA) program at McGill University has carved a spot in the top 10 business analytics programs in the world and taken the top spot in Canada.
Released today, the QS World University Rankings places the McGill MMA 10th in the QS Masters in Business Analytics Rankings 2021.
Four Desautels professors have been awarded research grants by the Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO), a Montreal-based scientific and economic data science hub. The grants will fund three two-year research projects led by Desautels professors as part of IVADO’s Fundamental Research Funding Program.
Under the supervision of Professors Juan Serpa and Mehmet Gumus, a team of McGill Desautels students have partnered with students from the Faculty of Engineering to develop a dashboard that tracks COVID-19 cases in Montreal and Quebec.
Updated daily, the new COVID QC website provides detailed information about the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in each Montreal neighbourhood, and throughout the province of Quebec.
McGill Desautels students Venkatesh Chandra and Ramy Hammam recently developed an analytics-based COVID-19 dashboard to monitor cases across Canada in an effort to combat the spread of panic and misinformation.
