Ramadan 2024

Published: 12 March 2024

Ramadan Mubarak!

Ramaḍān in Islam is the month of fasting that begins at sunset on March 10th (based on lunar observations in North America), and ends at sunset on April 9 with the feast ʻĪd al-Fiṭr. During this month, physically able Muslims do not eat or drink from the first sign of dawn until sunset. It is a time of self-examination and religious devotion, of charity and community. Read one of our student-authored stories for a personal perspective on what this holy month means to some.

Academic and Dietary Accommodations

Many students and staff in our community will be fasting from the pre-dawn meal suhoor, to the breaking of the fast at the evening meal, iftar. Students who need academic accommodations for Ramadan-related observances should reach out to their professors with as much advance notice as possible.

For students living in residence, suhoor breakfast boxes are available from March 9 to April 9. Students need to fill in the form by 3PM for pickup at one of the 4 dining halls (Bishop Mountain Hall, Carrefour Sherbrooke, New Residence Hall and Royal Victoria College) between 5:00 pm-9:00 pm, every day.
