Muslim Awareness Week 2022

Published: 20 January 2022

Muslim Awareness Week (MAW) is a yearly week of solidarity and exchange where people of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs are invited to learn about the achievements, contributions, aspirations and concerns of Quebecers of Muslim faith.

Born as a grassroots response to the tragic shooting at a mosque on January 29, 2017 that killed 6 men, this week is now in its fourth edition. In 2022, the events run from January 25th through 31st. The goal: Getting to know each other!  Through dialogue, bridge building and willingness to navigate the challenges of our pluralistic society with an open heart, we hope to move forward towards greater inclusion and equity here in Quebec as well as beyond our borders.

MORSL is pleased to take part in activities that support MAW by raising awareness of the vibrant and diverse Muslim students, faculty and staff at McGill, and by creating opportunities for Muslims and non-Muslims to come together to learn and spark friendships.

At McGill, several events will take place, including:

Tuesday January 25th, 5-6:30 PM (ET)

-McGill Muslim Student Panel: Part of MORSL's "Did you know?" series, here is your chance to get to know the vibrant and dynamic members of McGill's different Muslim student associations!

Friday January 28th, 2:30 PM (ET)

-Commemoration at McGill of the CCIQ Mosque Attack (open to the public)

Please visit the MAW Facebook page to view more than 10 different online events (in English and en français), or visit their website.
