A shift is underway in how we conduct assessment at McGill! Coming into effect in Fall 2024, McGill’s new, principles-based Policy on Assessment of Student Learning (PASL) seeks to promote fair, meaningful, and effective assessment of students’ learning across the University. With PASL, we’re shifting from assessing students to gauging and supporting learning through “assessment for learning,” the pedagogical underpinning of the new Policy.
To support instructors in implementing PASL, we are planning “Assessment for Learning Month.”
Throughout the month of May, we will be offering a range of daily in-person and online facilitated events, and self-access activities (which can be conducted individually or in a group), to assist instructors with integrating assessment for learning into their assessment practices.
Upcoming events and activities
Join us for “Assessment for Learning Month” to:
- Reflect on how your assessment practices can foster PASL principles.
- Get inspiration for updating your assessments with example assessment strategies.
- Learn about technologies for implementing a range of assessment strategies.
- Explore the connections between assessment for learning and topics of interest in the current assessment landscape, such as equity, accessibility, well-being, and AI.
No time to participate in events?
You can complete the self-access activities in your own time, even once the Month of Assessment is over.
