Adolescent Medicine

INTERNATIONAL TRAINEE LOOKING FOR A FELLOWSHIP?

Canadian Residency Programs consist of subspecialty training (R4-R5 and R4-R6) often referred to as fellowship programs internationally, as well as core residency training (R1-R4).

What is a Canadian Residency Program?

A Canadian Residency Program consists of specialty and subspecialty programs (R1-4, R4-5, R4-6) fully accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).

What is a Canadian Fellowship Program?

A Canadian Fellowship Program (post-residency) is a well-defined clinical and/or clinical-research experience of equal or greater than 1 year which is not accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).

Applicants to fellowship training programs must have satisfactorily completed residency training as well as either Royal College or Board Certification.  Candidates must be deemed eligible to receive a training card by the Collège des Médecins du Québec.

Adolescent Medicine has been an integral part of the Montreal Children's Hospital/McGill University since the early 1970s. The Program has a long-standing reputation for providing holistic, compassionate, patient- and family-centred expert clinical care. Located on the first and second floors of the Gilman Pavilion at 1040 Atwater, patients benefit from a dedicated, adolescent-friendly clinical space and staff, and the physical adjacency of the various clinicians involved in this highly experienced, well-integrated interdisciplinary team.

The Division thrives on the diversity of interests and expertise of its individual members: eating disorders; obesity treatment/bariatric surgery; medical gynecology; adolescent obstetrics; teen parent and infant care; forensic evaluation of sexual assault; evaluation and medical management of gender questioning youth; care of youth in detention; care of youth in group home settings; collaborative management of youth with chronic illnesses; transition of care to the adult setting. We have a tradition of embracing innovation and nurturing individual residents' interests whenever possible.
