Dr. Thomas Fox

OBITUARY

DR. THOMAS F. FOX (1947-2021)

Former member of the Department, Dr. Thomas F. Fox, passed away on October 3, 2021.

After finishing his PhD at McGill in the 1970s, Fox (as he was widely known) taught at Dawson College, and meanwhile lectured for us for over 40 years. He was a great friend to many of us and an absolutely beloved teacher to thousands of McGill Students. He was remarkable for being able to teach with brio almost any assignment given to him. Since retiring from Dawson, he became an even more regular contributor to our Department; notably, under his tutelage , the History and Philosophy of Mathematics course became on of our most popular offerings. His unique style coupled with his profound love and knowledge of mathematics shone through, and he was recently honoured with the Principal's Prize for Teaching in the category of course lecturer. Fox will be Deeply missed by many McGillians.
