Hat Trick For Daniel Boyer

The Faculty of Law was delighted to learn that our colleague Daniel Boyer (BA’79, MLIS’88), Head Librarian of the Nahum Gelber Law Library, was named Associate Dean of User Services of the McGill Library for a two-year mandate.

As well, Me Boyer has also been named to the board of directors of the Société québécoise d'information juridique (SOQUIJ) for a period of five years, following the recommendation of the Deans of law faculties across Quebec.

Daniel Weinstock to direct McGill’s Institute for Health and Social Policy

BLG makes generous donation to Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private & Comparative Law

John G. Murphy, managing partner at Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG), is extremely proud of the efforts made by a team headed by H. John Godber (BCL'88, LLB'88) and Neil Hazan (BCL/LLB'02) to support McGill Faculty of Law’s Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law. The fundraising activity, which brought in $400,000 from BLG’s lawyers and partners across Canada, ended this month.

Ronald Niezen inaugural incumbent of the Pearson Chair in Civil Society and Public Policy

The Faculties of Arts and Law are happy to announce that Professor Ronald Niezen, a former Chair of McGill’s Department of Anthropology who held the Canada Research Chair in the Comparative Study of Indigenous Rights and Identity, has been appointed as the first incumbent of the Katharine A. Pearson Chair in Civil Society and Public Policy.

Margaret Somerville awarded a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, by Royal Military College of Canada

McGill Professor Margaret Somerville was awarded a Doctorate of Laws, honoris causa, on May 16, 2013, by the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. During the College’s 94th Convocation ceremony, the College’s Chancellor, the Honourable Peter McKay, Minister of Defence, cited “her exceptional contributions to society through research, scholarly debate and personal involvement.”

Sally Engle Merry awarded a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at Convocation 2013

McGill Law research team to receive large award for research in arbitration and transnational law

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that its Private Justice and the Rule of Law Research Team was awarded funding for an ambitious program of research entitled “Private Justice and its Laws: Harmonization, Conciliation and Legitimacy”. At $450,000, this is one of the largest peer-reviewed awards ever to have come to the Faculty.
