On Canada Day, July 1, 2017, Canada's newest astronauts were announced: Dr. Jennifer Sidey (B.Eng. Honours '11) and Mr. Joshua Kutryk, both from Alberta. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at McGill is very proud of Jennifer's achievement.

Honours '03), Shane Jacobs (B.Eng. '04), Jennifer Sidey (B.Eng. Honours '11) and Geneviève Vallières (B.Eng. '02) are running for the chance to be the next Canadian astronauts. With spring finally here and warmer temperatures just around the corner, snow will slowly melt away, releasing us from the clutches of winter. However, that’s not the only thing that the melting snow will release. Researchers from McGill University and École de technologie supérieure in Montreal have found that urban snow accumulates a toxic cocktail from car emissions - pollutants that are in turn unleashed into the environment as the weather warms up.

Prof. Lawrence Chen has agreed to serve as the first Academic Lead of the eLATE (enhancing learning and teaching in Engineering) initiative.  Prof. Chen will work in collaboration with academic staff and the Pedagogical Coordinator towards meeting the initiative’s objectives, bringing the perspective of a faculty member. Professor Chen is one of our Faculty’s leaders in teaching and learning improvement, and has a growing record of advancing the state of education in our Faculty by implementing new teaching methodologies in FACC courses as well as undergraduate and graduate ECSE courses.

On  Saturday, November 26 from 3am to 5pm, Facilities will be performing renovation work that will affect temperatures in the Schulich Library of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Engineering. The steam distribution system in the Macdonald-Stewart Library Building (Schulich Library) will be shut down in order to fix six leaks before the winter season sets in. As a result, library users may experience colder than normal temperatures. Spaces will be open for study but users should dress accordingly.
