From May 1-2, 2024, McGill and the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany will co-host the Sparwasser Arctic Climate Change Forum. The Forum is named in honour of Germany's Ambassador to Canada, Sabine Sparwasser, who has been a key supporter of circumpolar research and international collaboration throughout her ambassadorship, which comes to an end in 2024. The goal of the Forum is to profile circumpolar research and explore opportunities for international collaboration in the Arctic research.

The Forum will include panels and breakout discussions, poster displays, and networking events. On May 2, a public lecture entitled, Arctic Ocean: What Lives Under the Ice, will be delivered by Antje Boetius, Director of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Professor at the University of Bremen and Group leader of the Joint Research Group for Deep-Sea Ecology and Technology at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology.

*Attendance at the Forum is by invitation only
