McGill most research-intensive university in Canada

Ranked first overall in medical/doctoral category

The results are in, and McGill has been named Research University of the Year in the medical/doctoral category by Research Infosource, the country's leading research ranking organization. McGill is also Canada's most research-intensive university, says the survey.

These distinctions reflect McGill's strength in attracting research funding and the strong publishing record of the school's professors. The title of Research University of the Year was bestowed on McGill after the school earned 97.3 out of 100 points in the medical/doctoral category. This first-place score was awarded for McGill's combined excellence in research income and faculty publications.

Following McGill as top contenders in medical/doctoral research were the University of Toronto and McMaster University, which earned 91.7 points and 90.0 points respectively in Research Infosource's scaling system.

The success of McGill faculty in attracting sponsored research income was what distinguished it as Canada's most research-intensive university. Research intensity is measured by the per capita revenue brought in by each professor from government and non-government sources.

McGill's professors brought in an average of $381,000 every year in research funding, significantly ahead of the University of Toronto, which attracted $263,100 per faculty member, and Université de Montréal, which was in third spot with $244,300.
