The rising cost of ready-made food

In 2020, Quebecers spent more than $1.78 billion on frozen and ready-to-eat meals in grocery stores, but how will the rising cost of inflation impact the price of these convenient ready-made meals?

According to Pascal Thériault, Agricultural Economist and Director of Community Relations for the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, it’s important to consider nor just the increase in the price of the ingredients that make up a prepared dish, but to also take into account the cost of preparation, energy, transport and packaging.
