The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Professor Yaëll Emerich’s recently published book Droit commun des biens: perspective transsystémique has received the Walter Owen Book Prize from the Foundation for Legal Research. The book has also earned an honourable mention for the 2018 Canada Prize from the International Academy of Comparative Law.

Yaëll Emerich primarily teaches Property Law and Secured Transactions. Published in 2017, her recent book studies property law from a transsystemic perspective in the form of a dialogue between legal traditions, aiming to show the unity that emerges from their diversity.

The Walter Owen Book Prize recognizes excellent legal writing and to reward outstanding new contributions to Canadian legal doctrine that enhance the quality of legal research in this country.

The Canada Prize recognizes an original legal work, written in English or French, in which the common law and the civil law systems are the subject of a critical comparative study in a field of private or public law.

“I am very pleased to learn that the outstanding contribution made by Professor Emerich to the legal community through this new publication has been doubly recognized,” Dean Robert Leckey said. “This is yet another proof of how richly our Faculty’s distinctive transsystemic approach stimulates thinking about law from a transnational and global perspective.”
