New Policy Clarifies Indigeneity Expectations for Work Applications

McGill has a new policy to support the validation of claims to Indigenous citizenship/membership made by individuals applying for designated opportunities related to employment. McGill’s approach in developing the policy was grounded in its commitments towards truth and reconciliation outlined in its 52 Calls to Action.

McGill’s 2024 Indigenous Studies and Community Engagement Initiative (ISCEI) Writer in Residence is Billy-Ray Belcourt, PhD, from the Driftpile Cree Nation in northern Alberta. His five books encompass poetry, memoir, and fiction, and explore topics such as decolonial love, grief, intimacy, and queer sexuality.

Graduate students in Education and Science earn Rathlyn Fellowships

Karen Martin and Dane Malenfant have been named Rathlyn Fellowship recipients for the 2023-24 year. This fellowship of $12,500 is awarded yearly by the Indigenous Studies Program to support Indigenous graduate students in their pursuit of excellence in research.

IMPRESS 2024: Host Callout

The Indigenous Mentorship and Paid Research Experience for Summer Students (IMPRESS) program is seeking project hosts for the 2024 cohort of undergraduate participants. 

The program awards undergraduate students $5,000 for their participation, alongside social events, professional development workshops and cultural activities within a 15-hour weekly commitment.
