Dr. Yu Kwong Li is the 2022 recipient of the Dr Howard S. Katz Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences. This award recognizes superior teaching, pedagogical innovation and leadership at the undergraduate level of dental education.
Kwong obtained his DDS from McGill University in 1990 and established a mobile dental service providing dental care in over 65 chronic care centres in and around Montreal. In 1991, Dr Kwong Li became a Faculty Lecturer in the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2009. He also became the co-director of McGill Dental Outreach Program in 2005 and was appointed Chef de Service Dentisterie, CIUSS Centre-Sud-de L’ile-de-Montreal in 2019.
Dr Yu Kwong Li contributed significantly to dental education and the Faculty by establishing McGill’s Mobile Dental Clinic, and by training students and clinical supervisors in community services, social dentistry and special care needs. His dedication and passion for person-centred care and his empathic teaching approach have a profound impact on colleagues, students, patients and public at large.
