All rights reservedDr. Sharon Bond, Associate Professor, McGill School of Social Work is best known for her pioneering development of McGill’s first specialized Master’s program in Couple and Family Therapy, M.Sc., Applied, in Couple and Family which opened its doors for the first entry cohort in the fall 2014. McGill is the first university in Canada to offer a Master’s program in Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) within the context of its School of Social Work with program graduates qualifying for two professional permits: Couple and family therapist (Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec (OTSTCFQ)) and Psychotherapist (Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (OPQ)). Dr. Bond has been a faculty member since 1998 and is also Associate Member, Department of Psychiatry, McGill University, Faculty of Medicine. A licensed couple and family therapist (OTSTCFQ) and psychotherapist (OPQ), Dr. Bond pioneered the development of the MCFC, a couple and family treatment centre, which was integrated into the Department of Psychiatry, Jewish General Hospital in 2006. The McGill Couple and Family Clinic offers a rich, in-depth clinical placement for students interested in developing expertise in the area of couple and family therapy and over the years has become a highly desirable clinical internship for students across disciplines. The MCFC serves as a clinical facility and training site for the School of Social Work and Department of Psychiatry, McGill University and provides unique opportunities for professional development for social work and psychology graduate students, who are interested in completing a specialization in couple and family therapy and psychiatry residents, who select an elective in family therapy. Dr. Bond is Couple and Family Therapy Fellowship Co-Director with Dr. Jaswant Guzder for McGill Psychiatry fellows seeking specialization in couple and family therapy. In addition to her teaching responsibilities at McGill School of Social Work, Dr. Bond is the Director of the Couple and Family Therapy Training Program, a post-graduate couple and family therapy program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
Dr. Bond’s years of clinical, supervisory and training experience with couples and families inform her teaching, research and community interests.
