The Department of Surgery is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Paola Fata as Director of the Division of General Surgery, McGill University and McGill University Health Centre, effective July 15 2020. We are very grateful to Dr Barkun for his leadership this year as he guided the Division throughout the COVID‐19 pandemic.

Dr. Jake Barralet appointed Director of Innovation, Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning and the Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Mwale’s primary duties and responsibilities as GPD are to manage the graduate studies programs (MSc, PhD, Diploma and Certificates), oversee the recruitment process to attract and successfully recruit excellent students, track the progress of graduate students and thesis submissions process of graduate students. The inaugural CANADIAN CONFERENCE for the ADVANCEMENT of SURGICAL EDUCATION (C-CASE) will be held September 25th and 26th, 2019 in OTTAWA- immediately preceding ICRE.

This two day conference is being organized by the Canadian Undergraduate Surgical Education Committee and will be held at the Alumni Auditorium on Main Campus at uOttawa.

The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mirko S. Gilardino as Director of the Division of Plastic Surgery at McGill University and Director of the Division of Plastic Surgery (adult services) at the McGill University Health Centre, as of February 1, 2019.

He will replace Dr. Lucie Lessard who has led the Division of Plastic Surgery so ably for many years. We all want to thank Dr. Lessard for her hard work, wisdom and vision in this leadership role.
