Steve Jobs steps down as Apple CEO

Steve Jobs, the legendary co-founder of Apple Inc., has resigned as chief executive officer after 14 years.

The 56-year-old Jobs had survived a bout of pancreatic cancer, had a liver transplant in 2009, and since Jan. 17 of this year has been on medical leave for an undisclosed condition, though he did re-appear in March to introduce the company's latest version of the iPad.

Speculation about his health had been rampant for years.

Jobs will be replaced as CEO by current chief operating officer Tim Cook...

...Karl Moore, a McGill University professor and columnist at Forbes.com, told CJAD's Dan Delmar that Jobs will be missed as CEO.

"Steve Jobs was the great visionary who had started the company, and came back and rescued it." Moore says. "Now, he'll still have a role as a visionary, but he won't be there to the same degree as now."

"And again, given his health, you wonder how long he's going to be around. We hope for a long time, but it's certainly a diminished role. Therefore, it's going to hurt the creativity of the company."
