Brandy Aven, Associate Professor of Organizational Theory, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship, Tepper School Business, Carnegie Mellon University

Title of talk: TBD

Brandy Aven is an Associate Professor of Organizational Theory, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship at the Tepper School Business, Carnegie Mellon University. Aven’s work seeks to understand 1) how configurations of social networks are influenced by individuals’ goals and motivations; and 2) how these emergent social networks in turn determine individual and team outcomes. By bridging individuals’ intentions and strategies to broader organizational and market consequences, her research provides new insights into both the formation of social networks and their effectiveness for coordination. In particular, Aven’s work explores the mechanisms and contingencies of coordination in the contexts of entrepreneurship and corruption. Her work demonstrates the implications of coordination for team outcomes across an array of settings (e.g., Enron corporation, Early capitalists in Russia, National Basketball Association, Chinese VC Syndication groups).
