Introversion and Networking

You've heard it before: networking is key to advancing your career. But what if you are tapped out, dread speaking up and reaching out, and don’t have any contacts in the industry you’re hoping to join? Often our environments in graduate school favor the personality style of extroversion – whether it’s working in a group lab environment or networking at a conference, doing science at a professional level often pulls on the strengths of extroverts.  In this workshop we will explore and celebrate the strengths of introverts and discuss how you can use those strengths to your advantage in your work and personal lives.  This workshop is presented as a collaboration between CaPS and the Student Wellness Hub.  All are welcome.

By attending this session, you will be able to:

- Approach doing “science while introverted” with less anxiety

- Demystify networking and work on concrete strategies such as identifying tools for networking online (e.g., LinkedIn)

- Get more comfortable with networking by learning tips and scripts to reach out to new people for one-on-one conversations

Please register 24 hours prior to the start time of the workshop to receive the invitation to the online meeting.
