The ability to wipe out traumatic memories is just around the corner. Katrina Megget looks into the science of forgetting.

'...we are still on the cusp with this research,' explains Karim Nader, neuroscientist at Canada's McGill University in Montreal. 'Some people have had PTSD for 30 years and in individual case studies of memory disruption the vast majority [have not experienced a return of symptoms] even after 6 months. That's crazy right? There's currently no 100 per cent guarantee treatment for PTSD, that's why we should go for it.'
