Doctoral student and Vanier Scholar Ermanno Napolitano has been awarded a Harvard University Solar Geoengineering Research Program (SGRP) fellowship.

Supervised by Professor Richard Janda, BCL’85, LLB’85, Napolitano’s research seeks to deepen the legal understanding of geoengineering, intended as the deliberate, large-scale manipulation of the Earth’s atmosphere to reduce global warming.

At Harvard, Ermanno Napolitano is advised by Dr Lucas Stanczyk, BCL/LLB’05, who leads a project on “The Ethical and Political Dimensions of Solar Geoengineering”.

“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, which will significantly contribute to my doctoral research, which explores the legal principles that should govern geoengineering research and its potential deployment, and how the possibility of legitimizing such a deployment could be produced within a sound legal framework” explained Mr. Napolitano.
