Professor Adelle Blackett receives 2020 CCIL Scholarly Book Award

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Everyday Transgressions: Domestic Workers’ Transnational Challenge to International Labor Law, by Professor Adelle Blackett, F.R.S.C., Ad. E., has received the Canadian Council on International Law’s (CCIL) Scholarly Book Award for 2020.

This award recognizes the work of Canadian scholars of international law, specifically scholarly books that contribute substantially to the international law literature.

“The CCIL Selection Committee has noted that your book is an eloquent narrative on a novel subject,” said CCIL President Céline Lévesque. “Your unique perspective of the story behind the creation of the ILO’s Decent Work for Domestic Workers Convention No. 189 and Recommendation No. 201 brings an innovative approach to the book.”

“It’s a remarkable book that, like the Faculty of Law’s distinctive approach to legal teaching and research, crosses many boundaries,” said Dean Robert Leckey. “I’m delighted to see this recognition of a work that is the fruit of many years of activism, scholarship, and teaching by our colleague.”

Prof. Blackett is the Canada Research Chair in Transnational Labour Law and Development at the Faculty of Law, where she teaches and researches in the areas of labour and employment law, trade regulation, law and development, critical race theory and slavery and the law.
