Organized in collaboration with the Sciences Po Law School, ‘Eating Popcorn like a Lawyer’ is a seminar series that seeks to establish a continuous dialogue between the fields of law and film. For each session we invite a prominent legal scholar to select, discuss and analyze a thought-provoking film.

For our first session of the fall semester, we will be joined by Prof. Allison Christians. Together we explore the wonderfully ludicrous cinematic roller-coaster that is Everything Everywhere All at Once (the Daniels, 2022). A seemingly banal tax audit of their laundry business propels a family (played by Michell Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu and Ke Huy Quan) into an extraordinary adventure across universes. Rules, regulations and the laws of physics and biology are bent and broken to save their unity. Love, we will learn, is as omnipresent and inevitable as death and taxes.

The seminar is open to all who wish to join us!

The film is to be watched beforehand. Through the McGill Library it is freely available for streaming here.

Feel free to bring your lunch!

See you soon!
