Institute of Islamic Studies seeks to fill Canada Research Chair (Tier 1)

McGill University, the Institute of Islamic Studies, seeks to fill a Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Islamic Studies, to be held in conjunction with a tenured professorship at the Institute of Islamic Studies.

Starting date: August 1, 2006.

The term of the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) is seven years, and is renewable.

Applications and nominations of candidates in all fields within Islamic studies are welcome. However, the Institute has particular needs in the following areas:

  • Modern and Contemporary Islam;
  • History of Islamic Science and Medicine;
  • Qur'anic Studies and Hadith;
  • Islamic Art and Architecture;
  • Sufism;
  • Islam in Southeast Asia.

The successful candidate will be a senior scholar with a distinguished record of research and teaching and with a compelling program of future research. Interested candidates should submit a letter of application detailing current and future research plans, as well as a complete CV, to:
