 Hebrew University of Jerusalem).\n\nRésumé\n\n[En anglais seulement] The v
 indication of private rights in a cross-border situation introduces a seri
 es of questions that have to be considered in addition to the traditional 
 private law analysis familiar from domestic situations. Who can sue and wh
 o can be sued in a local court\, and for what? Should local or foreign law
  apply? What assistance should a local court give a foreign court? What is
  the local significance of a foreign judicial decision? \n\nThese question
 s are quite distinct from the private law analysis and they inevitably tou
 ch - directly or indirectly\, explicitly or implicitly - on public interes
 ts of both local and foreign sovereigns. It is then not surprising that wh
 ile designed to facilitate the enforcement of private rights\, private int
 ernational law demonstrates a preoccupation with the appropriate weight to
  be attached to local and foreign public interests and the appropriate way
  in which to express them. It should be no more surprising that the sense 
 of what is appropriate should fluctuate with changes in the relationship b
 etween public and private law and changes in the relationship between stat
 es.\n\nThe presentation will explore different manifestations of this preo
 ccupation with the “public” in each area of private international law (jur
 isdiction\, choice of law\, foreign judgments\, and legal assistance to fo
 reign courts)\, drawing on methodological and doctrinal examples of attemp
 ts to assert or to suppress local public concerns\, to repel or to admit f
 oreign public intrusions.\n\nLes Ateliers de droit civil\n\nEn vue de prom
 ouvoir la réflexion fondamentale en droit privé\, le Centre a instauré la 
 série des Ateliers de droit civil\, qui permet de regrouper des juristes q
 uébécois et étrangers autour de thèmes de recherche communs. Dédiés à l’ét
 ude d’un thème de recherche transversal\, les Ateliers de droit civil cont
 ribuent ainsi à enrichir et à stimuler la recherche fondamentale en droit 
 privé.\n\nLe cycle 2016-2018 des Ateliers de droit civil\, présenté par le
  Centre Paul-André Crépeau de droit privé et comparé\, se déroule sur le t
 hème « Le public en droit privé ».\n\nLa série des Ateliers de droit civil
  compte sur l’appui financier du Fonds d’appui à l’accès à la justice dans
  les deux langues officielles.\n\nAucune inscription préalable n’est requi
 se. Chaque atelier est accrédité pour 1\,5 heure de formation continue obl
 igatoire auprès du Barreau du Québec et de la Chambre des notaires du Québ
