The Neuro Film Series

The next film in the Neuro Film series is a blend of science fiction and noir detective fiction. Blade Runner (1982) was a box office and critical bust upon its initial exhibition, but its unique postmodern production design became hugely influential within the sci-fi genre, and the film gained a significant cult following that increased its stature. Blade Runner was directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer and Sean Young. The plot focuses on a brutal and cunning group of recently escaped replicants (genetically engineered organic robots), hiding in a dystopian Los Angeles, circa November 2011,  and the burnt out expert blade runner (police special operative) who reluctantly agrees to take on one more assignment to hunt them down.

Blade Runner will be hosted by Dr. Philippe Séguéla whose primary interest is in the molecular basis of hyperexcitability in the brain and in sensory pathways. Dr. Séguéla's group uses a multidisciplinary approach based on recombinant DNA methodology, biochemistry and electrophysiological recordings in mammalian neurons, transfected cells and the Xenopus oocyte expression system. The Séguéla laboratory is investigating the functional diversity of several excitatory ion channels to understand their contribution to neurological pathologies.  Dr. Seguela will discuss the neuroscience-related topics illustrated in this movie which are pain and CIP (congenital insensitivity to pain) syndroms, artificial brains and artificial intelligence.
