Montreal Neurological Institute 3801 rue University, Montreal, QC, H3A 2B4, CA

The Dorothy J. Killam Lecture was established at The Neuro in 2004 to recognize women of influence in business, science, politics or the humanities. This important lecture is named after an extraordinary woman who, together with her husband, made immense contributions to Canadian education and science.

This year’s Dorothy J. Killam Lecturer is Dr. Lily Jan who is a Professor of Physiology and Biochemistry at the University of California in San Francisco. Dr. Jan has decades of expertise and leadership in ion channel studies.  Her recent research interests in neuronal function and development converge on the neuron's dendrites. Dr. Jan is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has won numerous prizes and awards including the Ralph W. Gerard Prize and the Edward M. Scolnick Prize in Neuroscience.

Dr. Jan will deliver her lecture, “Potassium channels and calcium-activated chloride channels for neuronal signaling” on Wednesday, May 30th, 2012 in the Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre at 4 pm.  A reception will follow in the Foyer.
