McGill students win top prize in CCA Charrette

A team of five undergraduate (U3) Architecture students from McGill has won top prize in the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) 25^th Interuniversity Charrette. Olivier Therrien, Nathalie Marj, Nour Achrafie, Diana Nigmatullina, and Alice Lemay were judged first place in a field of almost 40 submissions from schools of architecture across Canada. This year’s theme was The City Around the Corner. The title of the winning submission was “Escaping Isolation in the Vertical City.” A team of two students from Carleton came in second place with “Suburban Inversion,” and a team of four students from Ryerson came in third with “Urban Curtain.”

The charrette is organized by the CCA and McGill University, in collaboration with the Université de Montréal and the Université du Québec à Montréal, and with the participation of Université Laval, Concordia University, Carleton University, Ryerson University, Laurentian University, the University of Waterloo, and the University of Toronto.

Jury members this year were: Brigitte Shim, Shim-Sutcliffe Architects; Olivier Lajeunesse-Travers, Microclimat; Fanie St-Michel, Conscience urbaine; and Mikael St-Pierre, Écologie urbaine.
