Branches is Now Accepting Applications for the IMPRESS Program

Published: 26 January 2023

The application process for the IMPRESS program has officially launched and will run until March 10th.

The Indigenous Mentorship and Paid Research Experience for Summer Students, or IMPRESS, represents a unique opportunity for Indigenous undergraduate students enrolled at Québec post-secondary institutions to do a paid summer internship. Beginning in June, participants are paired with a McGill professor or professional for an eight-week, in-person research project in their field of interest. Interns spend 15 hours per week in a research setting, and five hours participating in social, cultural, and developmental activities. The program aims to give students valuable research experience, prepare them for the job market, and to increase their insight into pathways toward graduate school. It is also a great opportunity for them to connect with fellow Indigenous students, and to familiarize themselves with McGill. You can read about our inaugural summer here.

Each participating student is also paired with a graduate student mentor who supports them throughout their internship. Participants receive a stipend of $5,000 for the duration of the internship. You can find the application for both participants and mentors along with more details on the Branches website.
