Come to Work Your BA events to explore, learn about options and different paths, and gain ideas, information, inspiration, motivation and advice! Organized by McGill's Career Planning Service (CaPS) and the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS).
CaPS and AUS are organizing a buffet of events to feed your career curiosity from the NGO/Non Profit Fair to career panel discussions to a great roundtable event to help you meet and learn from professionals in a wide variety of fields. In particular this year, many of the events revolve around the theme of social justice, and community and political engagement.

Effective Altruists at McGill is a chapter of a global social movement that uses evidence and reason to determine the most effective ways to improve the world. Most people think that working in the non-profit sector straight out of university is the best way to make a difference. As it turns out there are plenty of other high-impact alternatives that may be a better fit for you. On January 31st, we'll be hearing from co-founder of 80,000 Hours, a non-profit that conducts research on how you can make the most difference through your career. After watching William's TEDx talk, Effective Altruists at McGill will be holding small group discussions on high-impact career paths that match your individual skill set.

Developing your Professional Network

When it comes to finding a job, your network and your knowledge of employers can give you a competitive edge. Many people, however, still have negative feelings about the idea of networking. This workshop will help you to see networking as an important strategic career tool, and provide you with concrete strategies for growing and cultivating your professional network. Interested in exploring career opportunities within the federal government? Please join us for our 4th annual federal government career tour, where you will have the opportunity to hear about career paths in the public sector, and network with hiring managers. This will be an exclusive opportunity to network with government officials. Special emphasis will be placed on public service renewal and the programs geared towards student employment. To be eligible to participate you must be a current PGSS or SSMU student.
