Hybrid Event | Shakespeare Lecture: In conversation with Jessica B. Hill, Actor, Playwright & Teacher

The Friends of the McGill Library and Stratford Festival are delighted to partner once again to present the 2024 annual Shakespeare Lecture. The event will feature actor, playwright, teacher, and McGill graduate, Jessica B. Hill in conversation with Professor Paul Yachnin, Tomlinson Professor of Shakespeare Studies at McGill University.
Their discussion will address her preparations to play Viola in Stratford's 2024 production of Twelfth Night, as well as her recent play, The Dark Lady, a love duet which spans the breadth of Shakespeare's canon and reclaims Emilia Bassano's story (the possible dark-skinned lady of the sonnets). Both a love letter to Shakespeare and a challenge to our conventional view of 'the Bard', the play is to be published this spring.
This event is hybrid. Registrants have the opportunity to select in-person or online attendance. A YouTube link will be sent to those who register for virtual attendance.

Les Amis de la Bibliothèque de McGill et le Festival de Stratford sont ravis de s'associer à nouveau pour présenter la conférence annuelle Shakespeare 2024. L'événement mettra en vedette l'actrice, dramaturge, enseignante et diplômée de McGill, Jessica B. Hill en conversation avec le professeur Paul Yachnin, titulaire de la chaire Tomlinson d'études shakespeariennes à l'Université McGill.
Leur discussion portera sur ses préparatifs pour jouer Viola dans la production de Twelfth Night à Stratford en 2024, ainsi que sur sa pièce récente, The Dark Lady, un duo d'amour qui couvre l'ensemble du canon de Shakespeare et reprend l'histoire d'Emilia Bassano (la possible dame à la peau sombre des sonnets). Cette pièce, qui est à la fois une lettre d'amour à Shakespeare et un défi à notre vision conventionnelle du "Barde", sera publiée au printemps.
