Banque du Liban’s First Vice-Governor speaks about conditions, responses, and impacts of the Syrian civil war on Lebanon’s economy
With the Syrian crisis close to sealing its seventh year, Lebanon is destined to be the neighbour of the country that has been suffering one of the largest displacement crises in the past 40 years, and one of the most daunting humanitarian crises since the Second World War.
Given the long-standing social and economic ties between Lebanon and Syria, and having the blazing Syrian territories as the only and longest accessible borders to Lebanon, the crisis has had a direct and significant adverse impact on Lebanon’s macro- and socio-economic conditions.
The talk explores the Lebanese economic challenges in the wake of the Syrian crisis, and highlights the local and international responses to the impact of the crisis on the Lebanese socio-economic status, and finally sheds some light on the challenges and opportunities.
