The Department of Family Medicine and the Indigenous Health Professions Program are honoured to welcome Billy-Ray Belcourt, Assistant Professor in the School of Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia, for a special talk on mental health. As a young Indigenous poet, scholar and author, Professor Belcourt will share stories and perspectives on issues of wellness, sexuality and harm reduction.

Date: Tuesday March 26, 12 - 1.30pm.

Where: In person at The Department of Family Medicine: 5858 Côte-des-Neiges. The talk will be held on the third floor (Rooms 305 and 307) and the reception will be held in the Indigenous Space on the second floor.

Lunch will be provided.

About The Speaker

Billy-Ray Belcourt is a writer and academic from the Driftpile Cree Nation. He is an Assistant Professor in the School of Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia. A 2018 Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholar, he earned his PhD in English at the University of Alberta. He was also a 2016 Rhodes Scholar and holds an M.St. in Women's Studies from the University of Oxford and Wadham College. In the First Nations Youth category, Belcourt was awarded a 2019 Indspire Award, which is the highest honor the Indigenous community bestows on its own leaders.
