While racism has historically been a taboo topic in Mexico, in the last decade it has become an important part of public debate. The book on which this talk is based brings together the key arguments in these discussions from influential scholars, activists, and public intellectuals and introduces them to an English-speaking audience. It also raises questions about the challenges inherent in the process of translation both between different languages and sociopolitical contexts.

This event is co-sponsored by RELAM and the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program at McGill University. Light refreshments will be provided.

Tania Islas Weinstein is an Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department at McGill University.
