Empowering Inclusion

Featuring Tara Flanagan, Associate Professor, Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, McGill University

About the forum: This talk will be focused on the processes by which to promote inclusive schooling, employment, and social participation among people on the autism spectrum. Particular attention will be payed to presenting practical approaches to empowering inclusion in a variety of settings and to making inclusion empowering for all stakeholders.

Bio: Tara Flanagan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology at McGill University. She was the Chair of the Joint-Board Senate Subcommittee on Persons with Disabilities (2011-2019) that is comprised of a wide array of students, faculty, and staff across McGill who are invested in recommending university policy and in promoting a more inclusive environment at McGill. She is the Director of SPARC (Social Policy, Advocacy, Research, Community), a research team whose mandate is to promote social inclusion among individuals with disabilities by emphasizing self-determination, community, and a shared responsibility for successful outcomes. Her scholarly interests and research grants are in the areas of social inclusion, transition from school to the community, self-determination, and quality of life among individuals with various types of disabilities and among other equity-seeking groups.
